Chocolates for Sale

Every other year, our top three choirs go on a trip and compete. This year our two show choirs (one for sure the other we’re not sure about yet) are going to compete too. This year, over spring break, we are going to Chicago. I was planning on going, even if the show choir doesn’t go. But, there’s one tiny snag: the price tag. *Drum roll please* $599. Yeah…well, my family’s on kind of a tight budget, so I’ve donated one hundred dollars of my own money (just because I wanted to be a good daughter in the tough times, and I have a job, so it’s not like a HUGE deal for me to pitch in a little). But, there is still $499 left. So I’ve been fundraising as much as I can, since I have a lot of other nasty price tags (along with my sister). Since I’m in the highest competing group at my dance studio, we compete out of state a couple times, and I’m also doing a duet with one of my best friends, Jennifer* which is extra cash. SO, like I said, I’ve been doing fundraising. So far, I’ve only really been selling these chocolate candy bars (which are really super good!) Surprisingly, I’ve probably made more money selling these than other fundraisers like the food magazines we get. I think it’s because the prices for those pizzas and cookie dough are like somewhere between five and twenty-five dollars. These chocolates are a dollar a piece, so kids are like “A dollar? Yum! I’ll take one.” I’m already on my third box, and it’s my third week selling them.

There’s almond, crisp (like crunch bars), caramel, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate with almonds. I’m not much of a dark chocolate person, but the ones I’m selling are seriously the best kind I’ve ever had! My grandpa loves these kinds and he bought like 5 or 6 from me the other week. Jennifer has probably bought twelve dollar’s worth of chocolate bars from me! But you won’t hear me complaining.
I’ve always been a chocolate-lover, but since I’ve started selling these, some days chocolate seems a lot less appealing! It’s reminded me why I didn’t apply for a job at a restaurant. I’ve had friends tell me that they worked at restaurants they loved, and years later have never even considered going to that restaurant ever. Anyway, there are fifty chocolate bars in each box, and we get twenty-five dollars for each box (well, fifty dollars) we turn in. So I think it’s pretty nice…I just hope this doesn’t make chocolate less appealing for me permanent. But, I have already bought three chocolate bars from myself, but I’ve allowed one candy bar for myself per box. We’ll see how well that works…
